چکیده

This paper introduces a new vision module, called PAAV, developed for the cognitive architecture ACT-R. Unlike ACT-R’s default vision module that was originally developed for top-down perception only, PAAV was designed to model a wide range of tasks, such as visual search and scene viewing, where pre-attentive bottom-up processes are essential for the validity of a model. PAAV builds on attentive components of the default vision module and incorporates greater support for modeling pre-attentive components of human vision. The module design incorporates the best practices from existing models of vision. The validity of the module was tested on four different tasks. 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Attentive Mechanisms & Their Relevance to Random Access Computer Vision

Research into the use of random access sensors in an industrial context has been motivated by the need to reduce the bottleneck in image acquisition time. With the rapid increase in processor speeds of recent years, the acquisition of the image from camera sensor to machine memory has become the slowest process in the machine vision system. Random access sensors provide speedy direct access to ...

Pre-attentive and attentive mechanisms in vision. Perceptual organization and dysfunction

The 2-day Research Conferences preceding ARVO, sponsored by Vision Research, Elsevier and ARVO, are designed to provide updates on major areas of interest to the vision research community. The goal of the third conference, which took place 7–8 May 1999, was to convene a multi-disciplinary audience interested in preattentive and attentive mechanisms in Vision, which is an important distinction i...

Issues in Robot Vision

In this paper we will discuss certain issues regarding robot vision. We will deal with aspects of pre-attentive versus attentive vision, control mechanisms for low level focus of attention, representation of motion as the orientation of hyperplanes in multdimensional time-space. Issues of scale will be touched upon.

Operational Automatic Remote Sensing Image Understanding Systems: Beyond Geographic Object-Based and Object-Oriented Image Analysis (GEOBIA/GEOOIA). Part 1: Introduction

According to existing literature and despite their commercial success, state-of-the-art two-stage non-iterative geographic object-based image analysis (GEOBIA) systems and three-stage iterative geographic object-oriented image analysis (GEOOIA) systems, where GEOOIA  GEOBIA, remain affected by a lack of productivity, general consensus and research. To outperform the degree of automation, accur...

Top-down weighting of visual dimensions: Behavioral and electrophysiological evidence

Visual search for an odd-one-out target is speeded when observers are provided with a cue word indicating the most probable target-defining dimension (e.g., form) on a given trial (Müller, Reimann, & Krummenacher, 2003). According to the 'dimension-weighting' account (e.g., Müller, Heller, & Ziegler, 1995), this semantic cueing effect originates from a pre-attentive processing stage: the coding...
